Weimiao Lu: Research Published in Fire Safety Journal
Congratulations to Weimiao whose hard work has resulted in her most recent paper being accepted by the Fire Safety Journal.
Weimiao completed her PhD at City, University of London, where she developed an innovative coupled thermo-mechanical damage modelling approach, and implemented it in finite element software ABAQUS to perform fire-induced progressive collapse analysis of steel framed buildings. Her research paper expands on her PhD topic and found that estimation of ultimate failure time, by incorporating the proposed coupled damage model, has the potential to be utilised as a useful tool in helping designers to determine how much time is realistically available for evacuation before progressive collapse occurs in these types of buildings.
The paper is titled “Effectiveness of coupled thermo-mechanical damage modelling in steel structural fire engineering“.
Since joining DFC as a graduate in 2019 she has contributed to numerous projects, picked up key skills such as CFD modelling, been part of the graduate recruitment team, joined the team at Edinburgh and attended other CPD events, survived lockdown, started to take up the responsibility of supporting new graduates, and has been promoted to an engineer. Read more about her experience at DFC here.
Well done Weimiao!
