DFC’s Annual Team Conference and Training – After the Event
It was great to see the team together last week to celebrate the festive period and undertake some exciting CPD with Angus Law and Rory Hadden from the University of Edinburgh Fire Research Centre.
We couldn’t all get to their fire lab in Edinburgh this year, so they brought the lab to us in Leeds!
As you can see below, the fires were a little smaller than we’re accustomed to, but Rory and Angus managed to share their love of heat transfer with us.
Adam concentrated hard on keeping a steady hand to measure the temperature of the flame (it is actually not a simple problem to solve). Nick, on the other hand, takes a more relaxed approach to this one.
The first day was capped off with a wonderful meal at Iberica and a chance for the team to catch up.
It wasn’t until dinner that Merl found out that it was actually a two day event, there were no post-meal lie-ins, and the real maths continued on day 2!
Day 2 started with the presentation of heat transfer equations to get our heads around and then exercises in modelling heat transfer.
We are so grateful to Angus and Rory for sharing their passion and knowledge, and look forward to getting back to Edinburgh in the future!
