Bringing the Fire Safety Sector into the BIM World
DFC took part in the ‘Proof of Concept for Bimfire’. This case study brings the Fire Safety sector into the Building Information Modelling (BIM) world where Bimfire Tools™ is deployed to digitise the fire safety design aspects of projects. The study was completed in collaboration with Symetri and Briab, specialists in digitising fire safety solutions design. DFC is now in the vanguard of digital process adoption in the fire safety sector.
Bimfire Tools™ is a Revit plugin for fire safety design. The tools allow fire safety information to integrate directly into the BIM process for a digital workflow. DFC worked closely with Briab and Symetri to gain the fundamental skills for using Bimfire Tools™ during the development.
James O’Hanlon, Associate and BIM Leader at DFC explained; “DFC took part in the Proof of Concept for Bimfire and we’ve now embraced it in our solutions portfolio. We worked closely with Briab, the creators of the software, and Symetri who were superb project organisers, keeping the pace going and always being there when we needed to deep-dive on the functionality of Bimfire Tools™. I believe this is the way the fire safety sector needs to go, partaking in the digitised workflow that BIM makes possible, eliminating human error, and being part of the ‘golden thread’.”
James and the wider DFC team have utilised the software on a number of projects across multiple building sectors. DFC has now added the Revit’s Fire Life Safety models to its services and has started using Bimfire on more projects.
