1,000+ Trees Planted by DFC in the Scottish Highlands
In early 2021, DFC started its sustainable journey by committing to planting a tree per month for every staff member in a Scottish rewilding project led by the charity Trees for Life. This month marks a very important occasion as DFC’s tree grove has reached the major milestone of 1,000 trees!
Jonny Joinson, Director commented: “We know that simply planting trees will not solve global warming, but it is a small positive change that we can do; it will sequester carbon from the atmosphere over the long term, and also recreate lost habitats for the benefit of local species, including us.”
The rewilding project supports the restoration of the Caledonian Forest near Loch Ness in the Affric Highlands of Scotland. It aims to cover more than 500,000 acres and is the UK’s largest rewilding landscape. In April, the charity opened the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre which gives visitors the opportunity to explore the forest and its wildlife, and to volunteer their time for the charity too.
Steve Micklewright, Chief Executive of Trees for Life, said; “For 15 years, Dundreggan has been a beacon for rewilding our landscapes. Now it will be a beacon for rewilding people too.”
