What does the Fire Safety Engineering Apprenticeship entail?
As a Fire Safety Engineering Apprentice, you will have the opportunity to achieve an academic qualification (BEng) whilst gaining work-based skills and experience. By combining work and study, you will accelerate your professional development and enhance your career prospects.
The Fire Safety Engineering Apprenticeship allows you to earn a full-time salary without having to pay tuition fees. In addition, you will receive all the benefits of being a student at UCLan, including access to state-of-the-art facilities and student discounts.
We understand that candidates looking at degree programmes by their nature are likely to be less familiar with the fire engineering industry. Your 4 years between UCLan and DFC will give you a sound knowledge and understanding of: fire dynamics; scientific and engineering principles; codes, guidance and Regulations; materials science; and more that you will need to be a great fire engineer. For now, all you need is an interest in STEM studies, an analytical and inquisitive mindset; proficient written and verbal communication skills in English and a proactive attitude to learning.
To thrive in this role, you should:
- Have a burgeoning interest in the fire engineering industry and the built environment.
- Be a problem solver, willing to explore new ideas and question the ‘norm’.
- Be able to work collaboratively with colleagues.
- Be willing to continuously learn and develop.
- Demonstrate pride and responsibility in your own work.
- Be organised and able to manage your own tasks.
- Be willing to ask for help.
- Be adaptable and able to multitask.
