Business Support Team an Insider’s View
By: Sarah Forbes, Business Support/Finance Team
After 24.5 years in a large corporate company, the time had come where I needed a change to improve my mental and physical health and the impact it was having on my family life.
Even though I was made to feel comfortable and welcomed during the interview process, I had no idea what to expect when I joined the DFC Business Support/Finance team. The nerves kicked in, would I fit in, would my skills be transferable and overall, would I regret the decision to take off my comfort blanket?
The answer to those questions was yes, yes, and no. From my very first day I was welcomed with open arms – taken out for a welcome lunch with the team and made to feel at ease. I work closely with two finance colleagues in Manchester, and from day one they have trained and supported me to adapt to my new role. “No question is a ridiculous question” is the mantra we follow. My previous employment has allowed me to offer suggestions to improve or create new processes, and these are always listened to by the Directors and Finance team. I’m proud to say some have been implemented and are already helping the business grow and develop.
Our Business Support team comprises of a group of people with different personalities, skill sets, and life experiences; all of which help us work very well together, supporting each other in our individual and collective roles, drawing on each other’s strengths, and sharing best practises to develop our own skill set.
I can honestly say, I have never regretted taking that leap of faith and taking off the comfort blanket. This has been the best move I could have wished for; I feel respected and treated like a person rather than a number. It has taken some time to come out of the corporate mindset and to be honest I am still not completely there, but I have made massive strides in the right direction.
If you are the right person and you get the opportunity to work for DFC, bite their hands off.
