Project Description

DFC provided fire safety adivce on Allegro at Exchange Square, a Built to Rent (PRS) development. The development comprises 600 apartments across four buildings, ranging from 8 to 25-storey. The buildings are served by single stairs and featured a mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. Phase 1 was completed in 2019, with Phase 2 following in 2022.

One of the key fire strategy challenges addressed was the extension of the dead-end travel distances up to 30m. These extended distances are made possible by improved smoke ventilation to the common corridors. This improvement not only enhanced safety for occupants and firefighters but also allowed for the removal of four staircases from the design.

DFC’s involvement in the revision of the BS 9991: Residential Fire Safety standards has equipped our team with the knowledge to provide precise recommendations on integrating open-plan living spaces into residential units.
