Project Description
The Freemasons’ Hall in Manchester has been refurbished to provide a multifunction event space. Fire engineering was key to the success of this project. The initial challenge was for a strategy that maximised numbers of people that could use the building safely, without introducing prohibitive compartmentation and within the constraints of the Grade 2 listed status. We used inherent compartmentation to develop a zoned evacuation strategy and protected corridors to maximise occupant loads. DFC has worked with the client all the way through construction to quickly respond to design changes and to ensure the integrity of the fire strategy from inception into practice.
