Project Description
This 220-bedroom hotel in Manchester embraces modular construction. Manufactured and fully-furnished in China, the modules are stacked on site quickly then the external envelope is applied.
DFC ensured the modules’ loadbearing steel walls and floors offer appropriate fire resistance from both internal and external fires. By reviewing and interpreting test data we were able to minimise the number and thickness of fire boards within each module, thereby maximising internal dimensions and minimising cost. Similarly, structural fire engineering calculations were conducted to demonstrate adequate fire resistance for external fires without having to rely on any fire performance of the external wall construction; thereby, allowing optimisation for environmental and visual performance only.
