Education: The best ROI
DFC is very proud of Adeyanju, Matt and Saskia who recently completed their fire engineering qualifications. Although graduations are currently on hold because of Covid-19, we just wanted to give them all a massive shout out.
Adeyanju completed her PhD program at Imperial College London, where her thesis focused on the structural performance of steel buildings subjected to travelling fires and blast. Adey is already applying her structural expertise to different projects at DFC.
Matt finished his Masters of Fire Engineering at the University of Central Lancashire. Following on from his bachelor’s dissertation topic which studied the fire performance of combustible insulation in aluminium composite panels his masters dissertation topic focussed on CFD analysis of flame propagation in cavity walls. Matt had been working towards this since 2015 and finished with a well deserved 1st class honours degree. We are very happy for Matt (but even happier for the rest of the team who no longer need to hear about his progress).
Saskia joined DFC less than a year ago and has just completed the BEng portion of her fire engineering degree, also at the University of Central Lancashire. During this time she was working full time and studying part time. Many a lunchtime were spent with the whole Manchester team discussing fire engineering equations – taking us all back to our university days. Saskia is now continuing with her Masters course, and has recently started researching her thesis topic.
DFC recognises that education has one of the best returns on investment (ROI) around for both the individual and the company. We actively encourage our staff to pursue further education and have assisted with tuition fees, time off, flexi-time, providing CFD resources (Yes, Matt, we did notice what you were up to), and most importantly we provide an encouraging and knowledgeable environment. We also arrange regular continuing professional development events, and collaborate with leading institutions (Edinburgh trip, award winning paper).
Again, well done for these great achievements! Beers on us next time.
