My summer at DFC
By Anna Boström
As I am writing this, I am about to wrap up my 9 weeks here at DFC (Design Fire Consultants), which seem to have absolutely flown by. When first arriving, I had only a sense of curiosity and little knowledge of fire safety engineering; but now that curiosity has turned into a deeper interest, as I have learnt more about what it means to be a fire safety engineer. This is thanks to DFC and the entire team putting in the time and effort to provide me with an insight into the world of fire engineering and get me involved in a large variety of ongoing projects.
For each project, different types of work were required, and I found my passion in the performance-based design involving first-hand computer modelling of fire scenarios. However, I also enjoyed numerous other aspects of the engineering design work, and one of the best things about DFC is that they encourage you to test out and gain knowledge in all parts of the company’s work, allowing you to challenge yourself and progress.
Regardless if you have already found your calling in fire safety engineering or you are simply considering a career in the field; DFC is a great place to test it out, expand on your knowledge and grow further. They truly made me feel part of their tight-knit team of experts, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity of working together with them this summer.
