Summer Placement at DFC – Part 2 of 3
2023 Summer Placement Journey
This year DFC were pleased to host three summer placements: Andrzej, Max and Aman are full-time students, and each joined us for six to eight weeks. Find out more about their feedback and post-placement reflections in our three-part blog: Summer Placement Journey.

During my six weeks at DFC, I have had numerous highlights in both the social and professional aspects of the placement. From the first day, I have been involved in numerous projects and worked alongside members of the team who have different backgrounds and experiences, which meant I was always learning something new.
The projects I have worked on gave me different tasks to complete and the opportunity to explore both my existing skills acquired at university and new skills and techniques learnt whilst working at DFC. My tasks ranged from working on mark-ups for projects, calculations of escape and exit widths, fire reports and much more. Clear feedback was always given once a task was completed which helped me to learn more quickly.
I enjoyed the opportunity to take part in site visits, where I was able to see fire safety implementations being used in a building. I saw the practical application of what I had been taught in the office, particularly during a cause and affect visit where fire safety implementations were activated and working.
The DFC Manchester office has a great atmosphere for learning and working. I felt very comfortable approaching any member of the team to ask questions and was encouraged to do so.
What I have learnt whilst at DFC has been very valuable, improving on existing skills and learning new ones. I understand more about the fire engineering industry and what it covers, which will benefit my university study and future career.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at DFC, meeting and working alongside the team.
If you are interested in joining us for a summer placement, keep an eye out on our Careers page in September. Typically, the window for applications is open until December.
