2023 Summer Placement Journey

This year DFC were pleased to host three summer placements: Andrzej, Max and Aman are full-time students, and each joined us for six to eight weeks. Find out more about their feedback and post-placement reflections in our three-part blog: Summer Placement Journey.

My time at DFC has been a fast paced and exciting learning experience. I have had the opportunity to work on a diverse array of projects alongside many members of the team. I aided in drafting fire strategies for projects at varying RIBA stages, completed markups for client and design team meetings, ran CFD models, carried out means of escape calculations and attended site visits. This wide range of tasks has given me a first-hand experience of fire engineering which I have thoroughly enjoyed.

One of the standout features of DFC is its strong culture of collaboration that resonates throughout the entire team. This atmosphere makes it effortless for junior members like me to connect with senior colleagues. This invaluable interaction has allowed for continuous professional development during my placement, and it’s something that I’m eager to carry forward into my future career endeavours.

Regular team lunches and coffees have been a memorable experience that allowed me to quickly integrate into the team. All members of staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and there was always someone who was willing and able to expertly answer any queries that I had with a great deal of patience.

Reflecting on my time at DFC, I can confidently say that it has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. Beyond the technical skills I’ve acquired, I’ve gained valuable insights into the inner workings of the company and the broader fire engineering industry. These six weeks have set a strong foundation for my future aspirations in this field.
